France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy
Spring,
summer and autumn are the best seasons to visit France, but there is a
region for every season. It is possible to visit Switzerland and
Austria any time throughout the year. In Italy, the weather varies
considerably according to how far one is from the sea or the mountains.
Summer is hot and dry, but the temperature is mitigated on the coast by
sea breezes and in the Alps it is pleasantly cool. The winter is very
cold in the Alps, cold and foggy in the Po Plain and the central
Apennines; mild and warm on the Ligurian coast, the Neapolitan coast
and in Sicilia.
Spain and Portugal
Spring
and autumn are the best two seasons to visit Spain and Portugal, when
temperatures are generally pleasant. In summer, the north coast offers
a pleasant climate for sightseeing and relaxing on the beach.
Turkey
Spring
and autumn are the best times to visit, since the climate is good in
Istanbul and on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts and cool in central
Anatolia.
Croatia and Hungary
May to
September are the best months to visit. In April and October the
weather is usually fine along the Croatian coast – you can swim in the
sea from mid-June to late September. May and June can be wet in Hungary.
Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia
May
to October is generally the best time to visit Poland, with the main
tourist season peaking in July and August. May, June and September are
the best visiting months for Czech Republic and Slovakia, with April
and October being cooler.
Slovenia
Due to
Slovenia’s topography, the weather can be quite variable across the
country. In the summer it can be very hot at the coast and quite cold
in the mountains. Summer and early autumn are the best times to visit
the mountains.
