Peregrine Adventures

Aaron Lawton (Canada)

Aaron is your typical overachiever, in the nicest possible sense! After graduating from University he decided the corporate life was not for him and joined our Antarctica team from its inception. He has now travelled to Antarctica over 80 times and in total has spent a year of his life crossing in the Drake Passage! His honeymoon with Cathy, also a leader for Peregrine, was spent on a 12 day unassisted kayaking trip around the Antarctic Continent. His next objective is to get as far along the Northwest Passage in a kayak as he can, as part of the up coming Peregrine expedition.

Qualifications:
A fully qualified pilot and fire fighter, he recently went back to college to study forestry, which he plans to use to full effect in Antarctica!

Achievements:
He has been a white water rafting and kayak guide on six continents and has used this experience to introduce kayaking to our program in Antarctica and the Arctic.

Catherine Lawton (Canada)

Catherine’s a native of Ontario, a keen backcountry canoeist and sea kayaker, and has worked as a forest fire fighter as well as a head cook in remote bush camps in Canada. She can always be found with a warm smile and a helping hand.

Achievements:
Cathy has worked with Peregrine since we started operating our own ships and has now completed over 25 voyages to the Polar regions. She’s held just about every staff position on the ship, from bartender to sous-chef, Assistant Expedition Leader and now as Hotel Manager.

Martin Gray (Canada)

A native of the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland, Martin works on Peregrine's expedition ships in both Antarctic and High Artic waters. He is especially passionate about the wildlife and landscapes of the Scandinavian Arctic and his in-depth knowledge and infectious enthusiasm make him a fantastic guide.

Qualifications:
Martin is an expert naturalist.

Achievements:
Martin's talent was officially recognised in October 2006 when he was awarded Wanderlust magazine's silver medal for Guide of the Year. Martin's sense of humour and humility was evident at the award ceremony, as he remarked, 'I've had 11 nervous breakdowns since leaving Heathrow. London is mad... give me a Zodiac and an angry polar bear any day!'

Scott McPhail (Canada)

Beginning his eighth year of polar travel Scott has worked in all areas of operation on the ship from Hotel Manager to Polar Historian on our educational team. Scott also works onboard preparing equipment and organizing logistics for the positioning and re-positioning cruises, so everything is 'ship-shape' when the rest of the staff and passengers arrive. All in all he can spend up to 8 months of the year on the ship! In his off time, Scott will be found relaxing at his cottage and working on his golf game.Scott has been a main-stay of the Peregrine program for 8 years now and knows the ship like the back of his hand. Being a professional 'cruiser' allows him to explore the shore lines of both Polar Regions while at the same time telling historical tales of Polar Explorers! If you dare, ask him about the stern board or maybe set him aglow with a question about his hero John Rae!!
